Interesting Facts about Eurovision Song Contest

Eurovision has come a long way! In the Dutch national finals of 1956,1957 and 1958 tv-viewers were permitted to vote for their favourite song. Not by phone but by mail!

The first song ever performed at the Eurovision Song Contest was De vogels van Holland by Jetty Pearl.

There's no accounting for taste: Sandie Shaw sang "Puppet on a string' for the 1967 Eurovision contest, though she openly expressed hatred for that song. She later said, "Other people chose it for me. I would never have picked such a terrible song."  Apparently, the jury liked the song. And she won the contest!

Every day until May 8 I will be posting a music video of each one of the semi-finalists of the Eurovision Song Contest. On May 9, I will post the last three (my top favorites). Enjoy the videos!
