Interesting Facts about Eurovision Song Contest
A tragic disaster occurred in the 2000 Eurovision Song Contest held in The Netherlands causing the national television station to stop broadcasting the show midway through the competition. There was a huge fire at a fireworks factory in the city of Enschede. The fire led to an explosion taking the lives of twenty-two people including four firemen.
In the same contest, the Austria withdrew in protest because the competition was being held in a country ruled by a dictator (Franco).
Mārtiņš Freimanis, the Latvian Eurovision Song Contest participant in 2003 and their 2005 entry composer (January 27, 2011). He was only 33 years old.
