Buffy came along at just the right time. My previous fave show (Lois and Clark) was coming to an end. Party of Five was magnificence personified but didn’t have the fantasy element I like in most my shows. So the 12 episode run of Buffy was just what I needed. And then it ran and ran and despite a somewhat dodgy fourth season, it was generally an amazing slice of extremely well written, brilliantly acted, thought out, beautifully executed tv drama. And then in 2003 it ended (properly thank God) and the almost perfect story that was Buffy was over. Or was it? Last year it was announced that Joss Whedon would be penning and overseeing an eighth season of Buffy – in comic form. The Long Road (part one) premiered last week in comic shops around the world and while not as satisfying as a tv show was filled with the usual wit, intrigue and mythology that you have come to expect from this series. A reference to the not-played-by-Sarah Michelle Gellar Prinze Jr Buffy of Angel season five is a nice touch as is the government being after Buffy for being a potential terrorist who destroyed Sunnydale. Intruiging to see giant Dawn. No Willow yet but a surprise appearance by the possible big bad on the last page is deliciously more-ish…
