~ Sophie Ellis Bextor, Tripping The Light Fantastic:

I got all over twitterpated yesterday at the thought of the delightful new SEB single, Me and My Imagination. And it got me to thinking – Sophie has had a weird pop journey. Her debut album was an amazing collection of electro-pop songs that never seemed to be out of the charts. The second album was somewhat less successful, although equally magnificent. It seemed that only Girls Aloud could hit the higher echelons of the charts with such groovy beats. So it’s a little disconcerting that the lead off single from this collection of tunes peaked at number 8 (remember the days when that was an amazing smash?). Still, it’s not the strongest track on the album. The aforementioned …Imagination is a buzzing track just waiting to explode while Today The Sun’s On Us and If You Go are awash in duelling guitars, electro keyboards and tasty hooks. The distinctive vocals are still in place, although the sound has darkened somewhat with rock and punk overtones. If you heard Dear Jimmy on the popjustice compilation, that’s a good indication of the overall sound of this rather brill cd ~ noisy guitar electro pop with a slightly sinister aroma coming from it. May can’t come soon enough….
