Say what you like about this year's Eurovision songs chosen so far (and I haven't heard all of them so I'll reserve my judgement till I do) but at least we're guaranteed some eye candy with all those male singers on show :)

Anyway the other week, Spain chose its entry "Algo Pequenito" which is very different for them - it sounds more like a very old-fashioned French-style carousel soundtrack than the usual Latin-flavoured Spanish entries. Regular readers will know about my particular weakness for curly-haired men so Mr Diges definitely ticks the boxes, in a David Bisbal-meets-Salem Al Fakir kind of way :))

Here is a clip from Spanish TV of Daniel recording his ESC entry...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zZPgUfneDI

Talking of Mr Bisbal, he's got together with K'Naan to record a Spanish version of this year's World

I just discovered today that Alejandro Sanz is back - with a new album on the way in the next couple of weeks. The first single is called "Looking for Paradise" which is an acoustic-flavoured bilingual duet with Alicia Keys. Alejandro even sings a couple of lines in English too! I'm glad he sang it with Alicia, she keeps it nice and understated - unlike, for example, Beyonce who would probably have overcooked and ruined the song.

I'm looking forward to Alejandro's new album "Paraiso Express" which according to this article should be more 'lighter' than his previous effort "El Tren de los Momentos" which I thought was a very disappointing album after the triumphs of "El Alma Al Aire".

There are preview clips of the album at http://www.amazon.com/Paraiso-Express-Alejandro-Sanz/dp/B002QF31EY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1257087157&sr=8-1 and based on these it sounds like a return to form, particularly if you like the heartfelt acoustic rock ballads which he's best known for. There are no other English-language tracks on the album apart from "Looking For Paradise" but recently I read that he's planning an English-language album eventually, so there may be more to come. Here's a picture of the cover of the new album:

Where would we be without the wonderful Poster Girl to keep us all up to date with the hottest new Europop tunes?
So... all I can say is thanks once again for bringing new material by David Bisbal to my attention. I also got the "Silencio"-vibe from "Esclavo de Sus Besos" which I liked on first listen (and I usually don't like many songs on first listen) - it's a very nice and catchy uptempo Spanish guitar-pop tune and further proof that he's moving away musically from the Latino sound which made him famous. The new album "Sin Mirar Atrás" will be released worldwide on 20.10.2009.
Oh, and on a completely shallow note....one of the most divine heads of curly hair in the pop universe is back :))))

Forgive me if I'm not 100% excited about the pending Spandau Ballet reunion. (And before you say anything, I was a big fan of the band in the 1980s, so I'm not just just making a cheap shot before you ask).

The split was one of the most acrimonious band-splits I can remember, yet suddenly the differences are all put aside for a reunion tour which is predicted to make an estimated £12 million for the reformed Spandau Ballet. So forgive me if I feel a tad sceptical.

Tonight I checked 'Planet Sound' (a daily must-see on Channel 4 teletext, for British TV viewers) which announced the tour dates and the ticket prices. £45 to £60 per ticket. Now I'm not being a cheapskate, but isn't it all a bit too much? For a band which, just a few years ago, couldn't even bear to be in the same courtroom as each other never mind stand and play on the same stage?

TVE Internacional's New Year show is an annual highlight here at EuropeCrazy HQ, and has been for the last few years since Sky started carrying TVE on satellite. It is a very long show, goes on for about 8 hours or thereabouts so I usually record it and watch it later in January. Whilst it's great to see such an extravaganza, I moan and groan every year that it is possibly the most artificial, sterile TV celebration you're ever likely to see, and all the singers and bands on it are miming. Some more badly than others, it has to be said.

Guests this year included David Bisbal, who performed "Torre de Babel" and "Silencio". Now I will always like David but there is something quite strange about the way he stands/dances with his legs wide apart and I'm worried (or maybe not) that one day there will be an accidental....rip!

David Bustamante, who like Bisbal became famous in Operacion Triunfo series 1, looks very nice these days, although I don't really consider a Pringle-type pullover adequate attire for a big New Year's eve celebration. (Why do all the men I like wear dodgy pullovers? Just a thought). Good to see the "singing brickie" still around though.

Chenoa also made an appearance, her singing career also continues to be very successful. She wasn't duetting with David Bisbal though - I was really upset when they broke up as I thought they made a great couple, but their love was doomed :(

Talking of Bisbal & Chenoa, the readers of Hola! in Spain have voted them the hottest looking male and female of 2007. Nice though David is, he wouldn't be top of my list. (Now a certain Swedish curly-haired genius on the other hand...!!)
