I was going to start this review with something brilliantly twee like "thank you for The Days", which would have been 85% amazing and 15% rubbish. Oh look, it looks like I did that anyway. Well, no one has ever accused me of being wickedly unpredictable!! However, I have become increasingly enamoured of this rather spunky pop-rock band and their effortlessly magnificent set of melodic tunes. I have written about No Ties before and my love has not diminished for this lovely upbeat summer power pop tune. It still makes me want to dance around like a nutter and wind the car window down, and that's quite a powerful thing for it to do as I'm usually walking to or from work when I hear it :P Luckily, it's not just a one off tune and The Days are becoming an increasingly viable option to be the next thinking man's boyband. They are a decent looking bunch of lads (especially the lead singer!) with a vibrancy and stage energy that's as infectious as one of their choruses. Next single Never Give You Up is a mid paced gentle rocker that has more in common with Take That than McFly, which if you have ever read this blog at all, you will know is a huge compliment whichever way you take it. It's beautifully produced as is Who Said Anything which adds some lush strings to the mix, and has a hint of The Feeling about it. Hey You and Jane are what the horse rider in me would say canter along with vim and pep, sucking the listener into the singers world as he passionately states his case. I love a good canter, I do. It's a great bunch of songs that bode well for an enticing full length debut later in the year. Be sure to join the members area of their website to get access to their brillo cover versions of Usher's Love In The Club and shewhomustnotbenamed's I Kissed A Girl - the latter complete with a rather quirky requisite video for you to enjoy more of the bands chiselled cheekbones. The Days - a little take that, a little mcfly, a little the feeling, a lot likeable. Join in now :)

For some reason, I totally thought buzz band du jour Parachute were british. They have that eminently Brit-pop feel about them which, while not as glorious as brit-poppers gone by such as The Upper Room or Captain, is mighty listenable all the same. This fivesome are from Virginia and used to be called Sparky's Flaw, a name I like infinitely more than Parachute. I tracked down their two EPs they released as SF and certainly wasn't disappointed. There are 8 songs full of fun, generally upbeat and with a nice swagger to them. Best of the bunch are Indie Rocker with it's gentle teasing of those who think they are cool because they wear the latest "it" band's t-shirt, One Small Step with a brilliant chorus set over an energetic acoustic strumming guitar and The New Year, which is reminiscent of Dashboard Confessional before they went all mopey. However, it's the new song She Is Love that you should be paying attention to. It's one of the most hummable choruses everywhere and probably the twitter status of the desperately lovelorn. It's part Maroon5, part The Fray, but a wonderful little pop song that shues out the winter blues and welcomes in spring with a passion. Oh, and for those of you following pop star haircut status, from left to right they are cool, ok, amazing, semi-amazing and at least he made an effort. So they you go. Parachute. Good clothes. Mostly good hair. Ace tunes.

Unrelated question: What do KFC and Peter Andre have in common?

Back sunday with a weekly update :)
