The Feeling ~ BSides:
If Dan GS and co were Maroon 5, they would have released an acoustic live ep and a fully fledged concert dvd by now. But no. They are just content with churning out top notch b-sides, chatting up D’Luv and rocking mine and ruthiepoos world. The Feeling are probably the band that Ruthiepoos and I have learnt to love together. We have seen them in concert 4 times, from back when they had yet to get England sewn up to when they were rocking packed crowds at V Festival. In preparation for the outdoor concert in a couple of weeks, I have started listening to some of their many non-album tracks and rediscovering a treasure trove of goodies. Songs like Modern Classic are peppy little soft rockers while the brilliant Join With Us is often and quite rightly rumoured to be on the second album. Definitely a live favourite, this song encapsulates all that The Feeling are about – harmonious verses, soaring choruses and a little bit of novelty thrown in (beep beep honk honk indeed!). Sun Is Shining is equally glorious and perfect for the hot summer months ahead. Even the cover versions shine above most b-side material and they well equal McFly for choosing the best tracks to cover. Video Killed The Radio Star shows why they were the most popular covers band in the Alps, while a more somber reading of Don’t Give Up proves that Mr GS can sound yearning and hopeful in one beautiful sweep. Seeing them rock the casbah live in their biggest solo gig yet will be the icing on a very delicious cake.
