I was going to do (500) Songs of Summer in honour of my new found obsession, the wonderful movie of (almost) the same name. I saw it last night and was completely enchanted. Downloaded the soundtrack, surely there must be a t-shirt? Anyway, as I was preparing some nice end of summer tunes to send to my friends, 3 very exciting bits of news happened that - combined with my (500) days of summer good mood and the loveliness of these songs - put me in a very proper bonza mood indeed...

  1. Robbie Williams' Bodies gets a radio play tomorrow!! As my fave male artist of all time, this is exceptionally exciting news. Popjustice have done an incredibly accurate write up of the context of Robbie recently - read it here (much more news on Robbie in tomorrows weekly wrap up)!
  2. There is a new book coming out about the 7th greatest Disney movie of all time The Little Mermaid transition to broadway musical ~ this will look very nice on my shelf next to Wicked: The Grimmerie...
  3. This twit pic convinced me that Simon Curtis is the new face of Louis Vitton. He is not. I am assuming he is not on True Blood next week either :P Made me smile though...
4 lovely end of summer songs...

Honor Society ~ Magic: Aaron Fabtastic has totally turned me on. Er, to this US power pop quartet who are BBMak tastic... They have a single and album out officially very soon, but the past few weeks I've been secretly addicted to their cover version of The Cars classic on The Wizards of Waverley Place soundtrack. Frankly it's the best guitar drench punchy pop song from a thinking man's boyband since BBMak covered Always Know Where You Are for the Disney Treasure Island soundtrack. Loud and proud, it banishes those early autumn blues by blowing a big wall of sound that oozes addictive happiness vibes whenever you hear it. Lush...
The Bicycles ~ Oh No It's Love: Ideally I'd be writing about a new Magic Numbers or Pipettes song right about now, as they have really encapsulated into aural form the lovely sounds of summer. No such luck, but The Bicycles more than make up for it. Using their influences as varied as The Kinks, Beach Boys and The Archies, Oh No It's Love is all handclaps, doo-waps and harmonica as it breezes along wearing it's endearing vulnerability on it's sleeve. Sadly the band seem to be on a hiatus to pursue another project, but if you can cling to this song as a bittersweet memory then you are onto a winner. Would also be perfect for a (500) days of summer style dance routine :P

The Love Willows ~ Falling Faster: If you are looking for an album that is full of sunshine, exuberance and rockabilly that isn't The Baseballs epic opus, you could probably do a lot worse than The Love Willows. Take their single Falling Faster ~ it's less frenetic than some of their album tracks, but has an undeniable charm as it tells the story of girl falling for a guy over a bouncy melody and some witty lyrics. The band have been plagued with bad luck (dumped uncerermoniously from The Veronicas tour, dropped by their record label) which is a huge shame because their music is infectious and a wonder to behold...
Tinted Windows ~ Kind of a Girl: Remember that moment you heard The Click Five for the first time - perfectly formed powerpop songs that tipped the hat to boybands of the 90s, beach boys, the beatles and even the turtles? The enviable power of their carefully formed hooks? Then remember how that has somehow gotten away from them in recent years? "Super" group Tinted Windows have recaptured that sound and this single is a glorious mix of memorable melody, funky bass line and a polished production value. Sounds great blasting loud while driving through a sunset tinted skyline with the windows down (pity the rest of the album doesn't quite maintain the quality though :/)...

Back tomorrow with weekly round up that will be mostly Robbie-centric...
