Goodness me. It's gotten very "snowy" in the Midlands, and like a loon on loon tablets at a loon camp, I ended up driving thru a ridiculous blizzard in the Peak District (very hilly, lots of fields, no phone signal) and having one of those mornings where you wish you ended up looking like this for work, but actually end up looking more like this. Well no, that's not true, i'm far too studly for that and had some ace butch-me-up man tunes to listen too....PET SHOP BOYS - Love, Etc: My delayed post about how I have belatedly fallen in love with Fundamental (where i am now chagrinned for not recognising some beautiful song creation and brilliant lyrics) is now delayed even further and increasingly insignificant now that their new xenomania single is available for listening and instant falling-in-love-withness. I'm hoping that brilliant (yes, i am aware of the overuse of brilliant in this blog post, it's been a very long day!) bloggers like XO, Phillopolava and Chartrigger will expostulate more eruditely than myself on the essential essence of this, but for now I will say it's beautiful, it's chanty, it's xenomaniacal, it's addictive and it's etc. Definitely a quirky choice for a comeback single but one that will hopefully earn them a higher chart position than the different but equally lovely Loving Kind. EDIT: Having slept on it, i'm still quite enamoured about the tune and has got me listening to lots of PSB related stuff including their lovely cover of My Girl, the debut West End Girls album (the Japanese version has a poptastic version of Go West on)(plus have you seen their brilliant cover for Little Black Dress?) and of course a bit of Sam Taylor-Wood...
RYAN FERRADA - Dirty In The Club: I've been "banging on" about this track for a while now, and Ryan's finally completed the video to it, which you can see on his newly launched website here. It's a proper good tune, and i'm happy to hear it in it's pop radio edit format after multiple club mixes took it number 2 on the Music Week club chart. Ryan gives a vocal performance reminiscent of George Michael to a throbbing electro backing track that oozes so much sex it should be wearing protection. It's all very male-Kylie circa Body Language and it's no surprise really as it's produced by Greg Fitzgerald. It's not perhaps as instant as other dance tunes lingering in the charts right now, but it's sultry vibe and sumptous beats are ultimately gonna get you repeating this track all day long. Bonza.
V-FACTORY - Lovestruck: I was very sad indeed to hear from poppostergirl that lovely Elfin popstar Darin wasn't doing to well with his ace album "Flashback" :( What is Sweden coming to? However, he may just raise his profile stateside with this rather funktastic tune he has penned for boyband superstars in waiting, V Factory. It's actually rather brilliant indeed, with a great soaring far above the clouds chorus and a multi-vocalised middle eight. Add in some ace but not too threatening beats, some fairly decent styling and hopefully a rather tight dance routine to go with the official video and this could actually get some play on radio in post Just Dance America. Kudos to the boys for making it sound like a post millenial update of the Backstreet Boys sound, and kudos to Darin for proving he can still knock out a top notch tune and not feel he has to keep it for himself :P PS, Imagine if JLS came out with something like this?!
