Major le sigh. It is fast becoming a Christmas tradition that B-Flo and his Killer boys release an amazing/random festive tune for everyone to enjoy. This all kicked off in 2006 when they debuted their triumphant Great Big Sled song. Not only was it typical Sam's Town Killers with a touch of Hot Fuss, but it also obeyed the rules of all decent Christmas songs by having some jingly bells in there and i'm sure someone pulls a cracker at some point. Plus it has the great hook "I wanna roll around in the snow/i wanna relearn all the things i already know" - and really Christmas is all about embracing the child within. 2007 bought the more Sawdusty Don't Shoot Me Santa Claus (reviewed here) which was like xenomania does Killers Christmas. It was about 4 different tunes all mixed into one song and a terrific video with hideous knit sweaters and B-Flo larking around in the back of a cadillac. This year's song (like previous years) benefits Global Fund to Fight Aids yet unlike previous years is a much more sombre affair. It is however, an infinitely better use of your charity music cash than the disappointing KyliePlay single which i suppose I will get around to writing about at some point (it's growing on me, but i still can't get past the pretentiousness of it. *Spins Winner Takes It All again*). I think Joseph is historys most fascinating underdog and this song (Better You Than Me) tackles how he must have felt quite well. He must have been the talk of the tavern. What a patient guy. Anyway, this song does feel slightly more Elton than it does Killers (perhaps cos he wrote the chorus while underutilised but still vocal Neil Tennant PSB contributed lyrics to the verses), but it's a great power ballad from the band and tackling their most religious festive theme to date. Brandon's falsetto is quite lovely, and admittedly Elton sounds quite decent on his parts. Nice "little drummer boy" type snare after the first verse and Neil sounds quite lovely indeed. Shame the video doesn't feature any of them...

RELATED FESTIVE GOODIES:

Talking of le boys de pet shop, i am chagrinned that it wasn't until a couple of years ago i discovered their glorious hi-nrg christmas romp that you see about two lines above. Introduced by Elton John! See! I don't just throw these things together. It has fast become one of my Christmas staples to dance around drunk to this at DazPresent and my annual festive/xfactor finale bash. Perhaps if you are unlucky a youtube video of it will surface on sunday morning... Anyway, the PSB-ers remind us how crap Christmas can be unless you remember the real reason for the season - the birth of Santa. Er, or snow! It's actually a very brilliant song and cheers me up as much in June as it does in December... (even if it does momentarily depress me at the end of verse two when Neil asks what is this years festive number one? Damn X Factor! I discount it and look at the Christmas number two as the number one!). Rock on PSB and hurry with your xenomania album :)

Check out a christmas card from the boys (pet) at worrapolava, and of course another brillo Christmas collaboration over at poptrashaddicts. Now that one does sound fun!
